How to fix "Error 1920. Service 'Office Software Protection Platform' (osppsvc) failed to start.



Error 1920. Service ‘Office Software Protection Platform’ (osppsvc) failed to start. Verify that you have sufficient privileges to start system services.

This issue occurs when the Network Service account does not have the correct permissions on C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\OfficeSoftwareProtectionPlatform.
To resolve this issue, full control must be given to the Network Service account on the ‘OfficeSoftwareProtectionPlatform‘ folder.

To manually fix this issue, do the following;

For Windows XP or for Windows Server 2003
1. Click Start and click Run.
2. Type cacls “C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\OfficeSoftwareProtectionPlatform” /t /e /p “Network Service”:F and then hit ENTER
3. Try the install of Office 2010.

For Windows Vista
1. Click Start, click Start Search, type Run, and then press ENTER.
2. Type icacls “C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\OfficeSoftwareProtectionPlatform” /grant “Network Service:F” /t and then hit ENTER
3. Try the install of Office 2010

For Windows 7
1. Click Start, click Search programs and files, type Run, and then press ENTER.
2. Type icacls “C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\OfficeSoftwareProtectionPlatform” /grant “Network Service:F” /t and then hit ENTER
3. Try the install of Office 2010.
